How to Correctly Add Ink to a Printer

Adding the wrong ink to a printer can lead to issues. To resolve this, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the Wrong Cartridge: Take out the incorrect cartridge and use a syringe to slowly extract the ink from its mouth.
  2. Flush with Pure Water: If black ink was added incorrectly, flush the cartridge several times with pure water to remove any residual ink.
  3. Clean the Pipeline: Disconnect the cartridge from the printer and pull out the pipeline to drain the ink back into the original ink bottle. Rinse the pipeline with pure water.
  4. Refill with Correct Ink: Rejoin the correct ink cartridge (as described above) and use a syringe to remove air from the cartridge until ink flows out. Install the ink cartridge back into the printer.

Printers use different types of ink, which should not be mixed. Even if a printer is compatible with both water-based and oil-based ink, mixing them can cause clogs in the ink pipe and nozzles. Users should be cautious about this.

If oil-based ink was originally used in the printer and a different type of ink was mistakenly added, it can lead to ink deposits, clogging the ink supply system and printheads. Here’s what to do in such a situation:

  1. If Ink Hasn’t Entered the System: If the wrong ink hasn’t yet entered the ink supply channel, simply replace the cartridge with a new one.
  2. Thorough Cleaning: If ink has entered the ink tube, clean the entire ink path (including the ink tube) thoroughly. Clean the corresponding filter as well. If cleaning isn’t effective, replace all ink tubes, filters, and cartridges.
  3. Serious Blockages: If the ink has reached the printhead and clogging is severe, immediately remove the printhead. Use printhead protection fluid and a syringe to manually clean the printhead, ensuring all ink is removed. In severe cases, the printhead may need replacement.

By following these steps, you can effectively correct the mistake of adding the wrong ink to your printer and ensure smooth printing operations.
